Sunday Post #144

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share new about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With Kiddo starting back to school and all the activities that come with it (football), life has gone through another radical scheduling change.
Yes, life has become crazy once again. I've been stopping after work to watch kiddo practice football. He likes, or so I think from his asking if I'm stopping and talking about practice, that he likes when we stop and watch. Then there are the games, parent meetings, fundraisers, and assistance that's needed to make the money for the kids food and gifts. But it's his senior year and I love watching him. He's enjoying it so much this year.
I had volunteered to make the Haluski for the game Friday night. That was one of THE MOST stressful things I've done in ages. Good grief! I couldn't do it all. Thankfully I have an amazing neighbor that's a dear friend and she helped with the cooking. Seven heads of cabbage is insane to cut and cook in one evening along with a HUGE bag of noodles, all on a normal kitchen stove after work. I have no idea how people do it!
This week I'll be limited on days again. I volunteered to cook dinner for the football team again this year. So they will be filling my house for food. They are great kids though.
As for reading, with life and Kiddo, it's going extremely slow. I just can't do it all. The same with writing. I did finish, on Monday, the ending of the story. But I know there are things that need adjusted and touched up. I wanted to do that this week....um, didn't happen. The time thing. My mind has been pondering the huge changes, adjustments, additions, re-writes I've done and know a few small things to touch up. I'm hoping to read through this ending and do that. I also found my notes for the first Christmas Business story and plan on reading through that next. I have editing work coming in October so will most likely put that story to the side when it comes in.
How did I do last week... I did get some exercising in this week. Monday I walked over 2 miles while watching kiddo practice. Tuesday was my session with the personal trainer.
Reviews:
The World Beneath by Rebecca Cantrell
"The story was easy to follow with the authors writing style and we got all the clues and back story we needed as the story went. I found I could draw the connections as I learned the parts from each person. I'm very curious about Joe in this ending. I want to see what comes next for him and how he stays working or involved on cases."
Six Stories, Told at Night by K.T. Bryski
"Should you listen to this podcast? Absolutely! The weaving of the stories that K.T. does here is all talent and gives the feel of an old soul traveling the world to share her words. Stories that hold your attention and heart, leading you to a conclusion that you finish in your mind. Time very well spent listening to. "
Shearwater by D.S. Murphy
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
Shearwater is a young adult mermaid novel that will appeal to lovers of paranormal romance, urban fantasy, witches, Irish mythology, and supernatural folklore.
After her parents die in a car accident, 15-year old Clara Clark is shipped off to live with a grandfather she never knew existed... in Ireland. Once there, she discovers that her mother’s past is filled with secrets. Determined to discover the truth about her mother, a string of strange incidents cause her to question her sanity. As the mystery deepens, she begins going through changes of her own, until she’s not sure just who – or what – she is anymore.
Then she meets the charming Sebastian, who won’t leave her alone, and the brooding Ethan, who can’t stand to be around her. Both of them seem to have supernatural powers, and she’s not quite sure whether they want to kiss her or kill her. When a shocking revelation destroys everything she thought she knew, she's forced to choose... whether to cling to the last of her humanity, or venture into the deep abyss in search of her true identity.
I watched the colored lights and sparkles coming off of Sebastian in the dark water, as the ocean began the process of rebuilding his tail. I longed to join him in the water, to wrap my arms around him and let him carry me under the sea; but I wasn’t ready. For him, the ocean was a home; for me it was death. Without being able to transform, the ocean depths would suffocate me, the pressure collapse my bones and flesh.
The Scarlet Thread by D.S. Murphy
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
My name Kaidance Monroe, and sometimes when I touch people, I see how they die. After I saw my little brother’s death but failed to stop it, my parents abandoned me to a juvenile detention facility. I don’t let people touch me anymore. Not my fingertips, not my skin, not my heart. I make my own clothes by stitching together the donations we get; usually a bunch of crap that fits like a parachute. My sweater is a patchwork of different shades of inky, dark squares. I make plain gray skirts that hang to my knees, with cute or funny T-shirts sewed in. They clash ironically with my unsmiling face. My Allstar high-tops are black and frayed, like my soul.
I also wear a chunk of brightly colored legos around my neck. My little brother was working on it the day he died. The day I failed to save him. It’s unfinished, so I’ll never know what it was meant to be. Most days, I just try to get by. But then I got a visit from a cute guy, who tricked me into giving up my secrets. He said I was special. That he needed me. For a while, I believed him. But once I found out what I could really do, I learned everybody wanted the power I possessed. The power to destroy deities. To kill gods. To end the world... or to save it. My heart is torn, and those I loved most betrayed me. I'm trying so hard to do what's right, but nobody can tell me what that is anymore, and the moral boundaries I'd always let define my life have been shattered. Whose rules should I obey now? Or do I have to make my own?
The Scarlet Thread is a dark fantasy for fans of Greek mythology and Gothic romance. Fans of Fallen and Percy Jackson will be captivated by this mashup of fallen angels and forgotten gods.
This is PART ONE of the first book in the Fated Destruction series.
Orpheum by D.S. Murphy
PICK UP AT AMAZON
Goodreads Synopsis:
I always knew music was powerful. Even though I rebelled against the marathon forced practice sessions that turned my adolescence into a prison camp, there were moments--even in the mechanical repetition of practice--where I stopped being a robot and felt a kind of transcendence, a connection to something deeper.
But that was before I learned what music really was, and that it was capable of more than just pretty feelings. That it was a weapon, which could cause great pain and destruction; that it was deeper and older than humanity; and that there were forces in the world that wanted to reclaim it for themselves.
And there's something beyond the music, something darker and more violent. Something waiting to be invited, something only I can control. I'm more powerful than I ever could have imagined, but the price is something - and someone - I can't bear to lose.
This is PART ONE of the first book in the series.
